Message From Your President

At the end of one year and on the precipice of another, we are at that time of the year where we reflect upon where we have come from and bid goodbye to the past while we celebrate and rejoice the fresh start of a new year and all of its possibilities.

A new beginning is upon us full of brisk insight into the future and bright hopes about what we might achieve. As our chapter moves into the New Year, we should take comfort and satisfaction about the work that we accomplished; not to feel complacent or to feel like we’ve done enough, only
to reflect that we were successful in our goals and to let that be a challenge to us to meet those goals and build on them in the coming year.

Hopefully, you’ve been able to celebrate the holidays with friends and families, to be
warmed by their company during the cold nights. Between the merriment and festivities, try to take a moment to breathe, center yourself and reflect on the past year. So frequently our lives move too quickly, we forget to lift our head up and assess where we’ve been and to consider the path we are currently on.

The start of a new year is a perfect opportunity to take that moment to reflect on the lessons you learned in the past and make a purposeful decision about how you want to proceed in the coming year. I hope that when you look at the path you are on you find peace and comfort. Remember that you have a sisterhood surrounding you, ready to celebrate and share. I hope too that when you look into the future that you see all the endless possibilities that surround you; that you are energized and excited by its potential and resolved to follow through on the goals you set for yourself.

I look forward to celebrating with my sisters in the coming year.

Happy New Years!
Kelly Aust – President, Portland Chapter 54

Fall President’s Message

Summer has given way to fall and as the seasons change so also does our chapter. Fall has seen the past board exit with heartfelt gratitude and thanks. Fortunately, many of our board members will continue to serve in the coming year. As the newly installed president, I would just like to give my thanks to Aryn Ferguson and the last year’s board for all of their hard work and commitment, as well as, express my appreciation for those who were elected to serve with me in the coming year.

In addition to our changing board of directors, another membership year closed and we saw a new one start. Thankfully, many of our members renewed and recommitted to our chapter’s vision and strategy for the future. We also welcome new faces to the chapter and look forward to seeing them at chapter meetings and events in the coming year. The blend of old and new members, of the varied perspectives and priorities is what keeps us respectful of the past, as well as, relevant and energized about moving forward into the future.

Fall also saw our annual fundraiser, Brewfest, come and go. Hopefully, many of you were able to be present and participate in our largest attended and most successful event yet. Thank you to Lauren Holmes for her continued dedication and commitment and to everyone whose time and efforts went into making Brewfest such an amazing success.

So many changes, and hopefully all of them will build on our past successes and take our chapter into a stronger and brighter future. We have a busy year ahead of us with the Oregon Retreat and planning of the 2017 Fall Conference. We are looking to continue our support of Block Kids, CAD Competition, NFSF Scholarship Program, Girls Build Camp and extend our impact into our local construction community. I am excited to lead our chapter during the next year and hope that we can support, encourage and grow with each other.
