November 2015 Newsletter

I write this, just after returning from the Annual Planning Conference (APC) in Reno, NV, for the Pacific Northwest Region, which is comprised of 15 chapters, all got together to discuss the coming year and get to know each other. Myself and four other NAWIC Portland chapter members had a great time and made some great connections with other women in our region. I encourage everyone to try and attend a regional or national event sometime and experience the camaraderie that comes with spending time with other professional women in the industry.

There are other exciting events going on this month. President Obama has declared November 2 -6 as the First Annual National Apprenticeship Week (NAW). This week focuses on the benefits of apprenticeship and the growing need for skilled workforce in our industry as well as other industries. For more information about NAW go to http://www.doleta.gov/oa/naw/.

In honor of this, our monthly meeting on 11/19 will be presented by a representative of Oregon Tradeswomen (OTI) who will be sharing how their organization is promoting success for women in trades. Please note the new location for November’s meeting. We will be trying out Gilda’s Italian Restaurant.
