Imagine: a 12 to 18-story high-rise that does not rely on steel or concrete for its structural framework. It is now a reality! Cross-laminated timber was first pioneered in Austria and Germany in the 1990s, but it has now reached the Pacific Northwest. Major wooden building projects can not only provide a viable competitive (and fire-resistant) alternative to the built environment, it can also be an economic boon to communities historically dependent on the forest industry.
Join us as Kris demonstrates how our youthful fascination with blocks, tinker toys, Lincoln Logs and houses of cards have all contributed to technological fruition. And check out his company’s website: http://structurlam.com/
