NAWIC Portland Chapter #54

Strategic Plan 2004 - 2009

 Mission:   NAWIC Portland Chapter #54 is the leading organization for women in construction, providing educational opportunities, industry awareness and career development to our members, the construction industry and our communities

 

Goal #1:   We will be the premiere network for women in the local construction industry

 Objective:  We will participate in 2 joint functions with partner organizations annually

·   1 with a National Partner

o        AIC, ARTBA, ASPE, ASA, ABC, AGC, CFMA, FHA, NCCER, NSPE, SBCCI, SAA, USACE, Dept of Labor Women’s Bureau, SBA, Women Build, WBENC

·   1 with a local construction-related organization

o        Oregon Building Congress, Portland YouthBuilders, Women in Metals, Metals Industry Consortium

Objective:  We will host regional functions to market NAWIC to women in the local construction industry

·   Oregon Retreat 2005 (Feb 25 – 27)

·   Forum 2005 (May 6 – 8)

·   APC (TBD)

Objective:  We will expand our networking activities to include all areas of the construction industry

·   Active participation in local and regional industry events

o        Metals Industry Consortium, union trade shows, etc

  Goal #2: We will enhance educational opportunities for women in the local construction industry

 

  Objective:  We will have construction-related programs at monthly membership meetings

·   Professional Education committee will schedule speakers from all areas of construction

·   Seminar/workshop development outside of Forum, general membership meetings

 

Objective:  We will have annual chapter participation in NEF certification programs

·   At least 1 person/year pursue CIT, CDS, or CCA certification

Objective:  Website & newsletter clearinghouse of upcoming industry-related educational opportunities

·   Create an Education area on the website

·   Update monthly with current educational opportunities from NAWIC, NEF, partner organizations, other professional development activities

Goal #3: We will commit to diversity in terms of our vision and membership

 

  Objective:  We will engage communities of color and tradeswomen in our pursuit of industry excellence

·   Develop relationships with organizations focusing on professional development for women of color

·   Develop relationships with organizations focusing on women in the construction trades

·   Take advantage of speaking engagements to discuss opportunities for women in construction

·   Actively seek representation from communities of color in our membership, on our Board, and participation with NAWIC events

 

Objective:  We will initiate a campaign to recruit tradeswomen

·   Develop an effective plan to reach women in the trades

o        Recruit at least 2 tradeswomen per year

o        Apprentices eligible for student dues rate

·   Initiate and foster local partnering agreements

o        Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc

o        Women in Metals

o        Union affiliates

 

 Objective:  We will issue a minimum of 4 press releases annually

·   Maintain a list of publications geared to communities of color

Goal #4: We will ncrease the depth and range of our membership outreach

 

 Objective:  We will incorporate Partner organizations’ members as NAWIC members

·   Target outreach to general contractors

·   Develop a campaign to actively seek new members from National Partner organizations

·   Joint meetings with National Partner organizations

Objective:  We will engage in 1 major membership drive annually

·   WIC Week

·   Expand outreach to include all facets of our industry

 

Objective:  We will issue a minimum of 4 press releases annually

·   WIC Week

·   Block Kids

·   CAD Drafting

·   Major fundraising event

·   Forum, APC, other NAWIC events as applicable

 

Objective:  We will make available membership packets at all chapter functions

·   Materials will be available at monthly membership meetings and all chapter functions

·   Materials will be available at all community and industry activities in which NAWIC has a presence

·   Membership committee will schedule boards & membership packets delivery/pick-up for all events

 Goal #5:                 We Goal #5: will provide a positive image for women in construction

                               Objective:  We will participate in 2 construction-related community projects annually

·   Construction Industry/Community Involvement committee will initiate activities

·   Develop plan to actively recruit member participation

·   Take advantage of marketing and new member acquisition opportunities

Objective:  We will participate in national NAWIC programs (Block Kids, CAD Drafting, etc) every year

·       Objective:  We will mentor student members into full chapter members

 

 Objective:  We will issue press releases to highlight chapter accomplishments

·   Professional achievements of our members

·   WIC Week

·   Block Kids

·   CAD Drafting

·   Major fundraising event(s)

·   Forum, APC, other NAWIC events as applicable
